Sigma Consulting Solutions
One of the first 100 partners to sign up as to Race Online 2012, Cheshire-based digital agency Sigma Consulting Solutions is running friendly, hands-on Go ON events to help local social housing tenants get online.
“We’ve always been mouthy advocates of web usability and accessibility”, says Managing Director Hilary Stephenson, "and we like to think we’re a charitable bunch, diverting our attentions once in a while from our digital desktops to focus on real people. We all have different experiences using the web, some for business, some for pleasure, most for both, for keeping in touch, for staying informed, for having fun, for winning arguments; put simply, for living, and the campaign has made the team think about the alternative, and how they can make things simple for beginners.”
Working with Cheshire Peaks and Plains Housing Trust, Sigma's tailored training sessions cover the basics, plus a few extras, such as keeping in touch with loved ones across continents, or, in the case of beginner Ken Black, tackling real life challenges – like dealing with his black bottomed tomatoes or finding a holiday. “Everyone was buzzing and enthused”, says Simon Penaluna of Peaks and Plains about the last session, and according to Hilary, “we‘ve really enjoyed it and are looking forward to doing more.”
Coming soon – Sigma will be running more advanced sessions while also looking into beginners’ computing courses for those who need more support.
